Volition is searching for AAA design talent for its next-generation console titles. We need outstanding technical designers with expertise in tools, scripting, pipelines, workflows, and prototyping. Volition, Inc. is the studio known for creating the Saints Row and Red Faction franchises and is located in Champaign, IL.

Responsibilities

• Streamline design tools and processes to help speed up iteration times
• Help designers troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
• Determine how best to implement design ideas through prototyping
• Facilitate the identification, prioritization, and implementation of new design tool features
• Define and document tools, pipelines, workflows, and other design processes
• Review design specs to provide input on feasibility
• Identify and communicate design needs to programmers and technical artists
• Create and maintain detailed, up-to-date documentation for tools and other design processes
• Design, create, implement, and iterate fun and compelling gameplay as needed
• Provide input on the game’s vision and help champion that vision to other team members
• Keep leads and managers advised of progress on tasks, recommended improvements, and problems encountered
• Keep up with competitive products and upcoming releases

• May be tasked with other duties and responsibilities in support of the project design team

Qualifications

• At least 2 complete product cycles as a professional designer. Proven track record with AAA console products and/or online development preferred
• Technical background in programming and/or game scripting. Proficiency with scripting languages, such as Lua or Python
• Familiarity with 3D editors such as UnrealED, Source, QERadiant, or CryTek’s Sandbox engine
• Positive, professional attitude. Disciplined and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
• Ability to think creatively and analytically. An in-depth understanding of how gameplay works and how to create fun, meaningful experiences for the player
• Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and be flexible about changing role requirements
• Passion for games and ability to articulate that passion clearly and analytically

• College degree or equivalent
